An attempted delivery, an item travelling to a collection point and an item ready to collect are different situations. Before leaving home to pick up a parcel, read the latest event and the carrier’s actual notice.
This article starts after a missed delivery or collection notification. It does not replace the broader tracking-stage diagnostic or establish a holding period for every route.
Identify the final-mile carrier
Use the parcel record to identify the carrier responsible for the delivery attempt and the tracking number it recognises. A warehouse order reference may not be sufficient for a local collection enquiry.
If the notification does not identify a parcel in your records, verify it through the carrier’s known official site before supplying personal information. Preserve the notice and the tracking event associated with it.
Read the action fields
| Field | What to check |
|---|---|
| Readiness | Does the latest event say ready for collection, or only that a delivery was attempted? |
| Location | Which branch, locker or collection point is named for this parcel? |
| Opening and access | Are there location-specific hours or access requirements? |
| Recipient requirements | What identification, notice, code or authorisation is required? |
| Deadline | When must collection or another action be completed? |
| Alternatives | Is redelivery offered for this shipment, and has a request been confirmed? |
Keep the actual dates shown rather than applying a number of days from an unrelated carrier or another country’s post.
Use the relevant carrier’s process
USPS’s redelivery guidance describes using a tracking or notice reference for eligible requests, bringing appropriate identification for pickup, and checking the return date on the relevant notice. Its redelivery process is not an address-rerouting service: the guidance specifies the original address on the mailpiece.
For an actual USPS shipment, start with its official redelivery page. For a different carrier, use that carrier’s instructions instead. Do not assume an option, collection period or representative-pickup rule transfers between services.
Confirm changes to an existing request
If you have already arranged redelivery but now plan to collect, check how to change or cancel the existing request. Save the confirmation so you know which instruction is active. A request submission alone does not prove that a parcel is already at the location you want.
If an option is unavailable or a deadline is close, contact the appropriate carrier or arranging service with the parcel reference and the notice. An underlying destination error belongs in the separate address-correction checklist; repeated redelivery requests do not by themselves correct that address.
