LitBuy Parcel Protection: Check the Cover Before Paying

Distinguish carrier liability, declared value and insurance, then record the events, exclusions and claim conditions of the actual offer.

When an optional protection charge appears beside a parcel quote, first establish what is being purchased. The value entered on a form, the maximum liability of a carrier and an insurance policy are not automatically the same arrangement.

This article concerns checking an offer before payment. If a parcel has already arrived damaged or incomplete, the delivery-evidence article addresses preserving material and opening an investigation.

Identify the actual arrangement

UPS’s current protection page separates standard carrier liability, declared value, Package Shield and shipping-insurance products. It explicitly says that Package Shield is not insurance. Its descriptions also refer to eligible shipments and policy limitations.

That distinction is useful when reading any offer, but it does not prove that one of those products is available through an agent or applies to your parcel. Ask for the name and terms of the arrangement actually being offered.

Record events and limits separately

Field Question to resolve before selecting the option
Covered event Does it address loss, physical damage, delay or theft after delivery?
Stage When does protection begin and end?
Eligible goods Are the exact contents and route accepted?
Amount Which value is covered, what limit applies and is there any deductible?
Exclusions Which events, goods or packing conditions are excluded?
Claim process Who files, what documents are required and what deadline applies?

These questions do not imply that every listed event can be covered. Leave an unanswered field unresolved rather than assuming the broadest interpretation of the option’s title.

Match the terms to the quotation

Save the parcel ID, contents, selected route, quoted charge and the applicable protection document together. If the quote is revised, check whether the option remains attached to the same parcel configuration.

Ask which party has the contractual relationship with the carrier or provider. A recipient may need the shipper to supply information or initiate the relevant process. Request that explanation before relying on a promise of help if something goes wrong.

Avoid an unsupported comparison

A lower protection price is not enough to establish better value. Two offers might address different events or apply different limits. Likewise, a larger declared value does not by itself show that every loss would be reimbursed at that amount.

Useful question:

For parcel [ID] and route [name], please provide the exact protection terms. Which events and contents qualify, what is excluded, which value and limit apply, and who must submit a claim by what deadline?

If those terms are unavailable, keep the coverage question open. This article does not recommend a particular policy or assert a LitBuy compensation percentage, coverage limit or guaranteed payout.
